VOV.VN -President Tran Dai Quang expressed his elation at the sound development of Vietnam-Cambodia cooperation in diverse fields while receiving Cambodian Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Prak Sokhonn in Hanoi on May 17.
The Cambodian Minister is on a visit to Vietnam to attend the 16th meeting of the Vietnam - Cambodia Joint Committee on Economic, Cultural and Scientific-Technological Cooperation.
At the reception, President Quang congratulated the tremendous achievements the Cambodian people have recorded over the past years under the reign of King Norodom Sihamoni and under the leadership of the Senate, the National Assembly and the Royal Government of Cambodia.
The Vietnamese State leader noted with satisfaction all-around cooperation ranging from politics, foreign affairs, security and defense to economics, trade, and investment, bringing practical benefits to the people of the two countries. He praised the two sides’ efforts to maintain regular high-level delegation exchange at all levels and effective cooperative mechanisms to facilitate expanding affiliation in trade-investment, education, tourism, security-defense between ministries, sectors, and localities.
He hailed the outcomes of the 16th meeting of the Joint Committee co-hosted by Minister Prak Sokhonn and Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Pham Binh Minh, saying that the minutes of the meeting would serve as an important foundation for the two sides to continue expanding and deepening relations in the coming time.
Quang also applauded the efforts by Vietnamese and Cambodian relevant agencies for accomplishing a large volume of work on border delineation between the two countries.
He urged both sides to complete the border marker planting and work more closely to ensure a borderline of peace and stability. He called on Cambodia to provide practical assistance to Vietnamese expats there, thus enabling them to make more contribution to Cambodian development and bilateral ties. He asked the Minister to convey his greetings to Cambodian King Norodom Sihamoni, saying he looks towards to welcoming the King to Vietnam later this year.
He said that he hopes the Cambodian side will continue applying flexibly related policies to assist Vietnamese Cambodians, with the consideration of political, legal, historical and social factors to provide optimal conditions for the community, helping them settle down in the host country and make greater contributions to the local development.
Quang also suggested Minister Prak Sokhonn continue contributing to the enhancement of the sound neighbourliness, traditional friendship, comprehensive cooperation and long-term sustainability between Cambodia and Vietnam.
In reply, the Cambodian Minister congratulated Vietnam for its socio-economic achievements and expressed his belief that Vietnam will achieve its goals of industrialization and modernization by 2030.
Vietnam and Cambodia jointly held many specific activities to mark the Friendship Year 2017 and the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic ties, he told his host.
He briefed Quang on the outcomes of the 16th meeting of the Vietnam-Cambodia Joint Commission on Economic, Cultural, Scientific and Technological Cooperation, with the minutes of the meeting signed to act as a guideline for ministries and sectors of both sides to implement their cooperation.
He said that at the meeting, the two sides discussed a wide range of issues such as economy, trade, investment, culture, society, security, and defence, while showing their determination to settle border-related issues as well as other issues in bilateral relations.
