VOV.VN - The Ministry of Health on March 26 confirmed five more cases, including a Brazilian, testing positive for the novel coronavirus, bringing the total number of infections in the country to 153.

Two of the new patients entered Vietnam from coronavirus-hit countries in Germany and the US from March 21-23, and have been placed in quarantine since their entry, according to the ministry.

The remaining three patients were said to have contracted the disease from other COVID-19 patients. They had travelled to various places of interest and come into close contact with many people before being quarantined.

One of the new patients is a female Brazilian citizen, 45, and lives in Ho Chi Minh City. She works at Gia Dinh Shoe Company which has an affiliate in HCM City and another affiliate in Dong Nai province.

The Brazilian citizen was thought to get infection from one of her colleagues who had tested positive for the COVID-19. The two took the same car to work at the two company affiliates.

The patient said she had travelled to a number of places, including restaurants and supermarkets in HCM City and Dong Nai.

The other four patients are Vietnamese, with three living in HCM City and one in Hanoi.

As of 18.00pm on March 26, Vietnam had recorded a total of 153 COVID-19 cases, including four medical workers. Of the total, 17 had been discharged from hospital following a full recovery.

Most of the patients in quarantine are now in stable health condition, according to health authorities.
