VOV.VN - Youth union members in the central province of Quang Nam in colloboration with the youth union of the Ministry of Public Security launched a campaign on August 14 to clean up beaches and say ‘no’ to plastic waste on the island commune of Tam Hai in Nui Thanh district.
The communes of Tam Hai and Tan Hiep in Quang Nam province are located on the province’s 125-km coastline. Currently the island commune of Tam Hai island is facing serious environmental pollution due to high levels of discharged waste, especially nylon and plastic waste.
More than 300 youth union members joined forces to participate in the campaign and were equipped with protective equipment in an attempt to clean up beaches by collecting waste.
Since the beginning of August, young volunteers in Quang Nam have been co-operating alongside local residents and using garbage collection vehicles of the Quang Nam Environment Urban Joint Stock Company to collect plastic waste at beaches across Tam Hai commune.
So far they have transported 100 tons of waste to specific locations under the current regulations.
To mark the occasion, the organising board presented several gifts and environmentally friendly paper bags to residents in Tam Hai commune. In addition, a ceremony was held to hand over the VND100 million entertainment site for kids to local authorities.
