VOV.VN -Four fishermen on board an oil-carrying vessel were saved on July 11 following their ship sinking in the waters off of Con Co island.
The 74-V00689 vessel which was being captained by Nguyen Van Viet, departed from the waters of Cua Tung town to the island district of Con Co at 6:00. Unfortunately, the vessel sank on route due to strong winds and rough waves affecting the ship as it was approximately four nautical miles off the coast of Con Co.
The four people on board were forced to cling on to the 20,000l oil-carrying vessel as it floated freely at sea.
Upon receiving news of the incident, border guards in Quang Tri province and naval squadron 48 of Con Co district immediately dispatched soldiers to rescue the fishermen.
Rescue forces are also planning on attempting to salvage the oil tanker.
